Bookshelves – Most people I know are hot for a packed bookshelf and even better if those bookshelves are a considered design element of a room.

As a copywriter, I’m used to seeing dummy text in web designs. Get your Lorem Ipsum, gangsta-rap style from here.

Use Gmail? I was excited to find out from Mashable that there is now has an auto-advance feature. When you open an email, then delete or archive it, Gmail can now automatically open the next email without being sent back to the Inbox. I always wondered why it didn’t do that as an original feature.

Shoes of Prey illustration

I have been playing at Shoes of Prey a lot. For a week, I have been lusting after an illustration of a shoe that I designed and may actually pay to have made. That is more deliberation over a shoe than I ever done in. my. life. (I’m a one-pair-of-sneakers-til-they-die kind of gal.) When I pondered my design over twitter, Shoes of Prey pointed me to their YouTube clip of nude patent leather shoes. Now, I’m convinced.

The Design Files showed off a gorgeous range of whimsical wallpapers by Binny Talib.

And because I can’t wallpaper this rental house, I spent some time on this Apartment Therapy post about alternatives to wallpapering.

Oye Modern had a blog post up lately about a couple who chose unusual engagement and wedding rings. Though not intended as shameless self-promotion, (I did edit the story together), it inspired me to spend some time thinking about the choices I make. I have a habit of moving with the rest of the sheep and choosing the path of least resistance, instead of sticking my head up to look around at what works for me.

The Original Human Pac-Man Performance – this is fantastic, and self-explanatory; and over on YouTube there are several more, equally as good.

The Blogging Teacher – Paul Cunningham talks about where to find images for your blog.

The links I Like

I’ve done a little housekeeping and ditched my blogroll. Instead of an ill-maintained, token nod to other bloggers, I’m going to regularly post links that I’ve enjoyed during the week. More importantly, I’ll tell you why I like them. Some will be useful, some will be entertaining, and others will have you scratching your head. But I can’t help that, some links are like a train-wreck and I can’t stop going back to check them out again and again.

This week:

Sarah Wilson‘s blog had a guest post by Masterchef winner, Julie Goodwin. It’s a sweet, moving post about Spirituality.

Seventeen fun facts about cats on The Oatmeal. I like the Oatmeal and I like cats.

The Annoying Orange and Lady Pasta. I’ve rediscovered Annoying Orange and the lyrics in this video made me laugh.

Eric Hammel has reviewed most, if not all, of the tools available to self-publishers.

Keenan Cahill is a 16 year old kid with a YouTube channel. Sometimes he lip-syncs to songs and sometimes he’ll do the singing while the song plays in his headphones. He came up in the Most Viewed This Week list so I did some clicking around. I kept coming back to this one…like a train-wreck.
