What do you want to be when you grow up?

The Unravelling course has been running for about six weeks. There’s only a few weeks to go. There haven’t been any major revelations but it’s been fun so far. We’ve focussed on our feet, our faces, and our families. I was going through some old photos as part of an assignment and this one fell out on the table.

I’m pretty sure that’s my bike right there, and so I estimate that my parents would have been slightly younger than I am now. I guess that makes my grandparents in their early 60s. Maybe it was me who took the photo? With my haircut the way it is now, if I don’t straighten my hair in the morning it looks just like Mum’s does in this picture!

This week we’re unravelling our alter-egos. The person we’d like to be, the person who is part of us but hides. What do we want to be when we ‘grow up’?  I was expecting this part of the course to be difficult because this is exactly the reason I needed to do this course. To find out what these parts of me are and who I want to be. Indulging these thoughts, and these aspects of myself, is akin to daydreaming, really. But there’s a little bit of planning in there, a bit of visualising future goals, and a little looking back to the past at the parts that have been forgotten. So I think I’m on the right track.

What about you. Do you know what you want to be when you grow up? Are you already doing what you’ve always wanted to do? Or are you contemplating a change in direction?

It’s so timely that photo fell out and got my attention because today is my Grandma’s 90th birthday! We had a big family party on Sunday with Grandma. There were 24 of us with all the grandkids and great-grandkids. A beautiful day to be by the sea for lunch. Our boys were particularly well-behaved. Lincoln danced with a little girl from another party and Fraser was excited to tell Nanny and Poppy about his first goal at Saturday’s soccer game.

Happy Birthday Grandma!
